Tencent Acquires 15.75% Stake in Arrowhead Games for $80 Million

Tencent, the Chinese technology conglomerate, has secured a 15.75% stake in Arrowhead Games, the studio behind the popular game Helldivers 2. The deal, valued at $80 million, leaves the remaining ownership with Arrowhead's founders Emil Englund, Peter Lindgren, Johan Pilestedt, and Anton Stenmark.

Arrowhead co-founder Johan Pilestedt welcomed the investment, noting it WOULD unlock opportunities in the Chinese gaming market. "Gaining direct access to China's gamer base is the holy grail in this industry," he said. Tencent's move aligns with its broader strategy of acquiring stakes in gaming studios, including partial ownership of 10 Chambers and the establishment of its publishing arm, Level Infinite.

The transaction values Arrowhead at approximately $532.8 million. The studio reported a profit of $76.16 million last year, underscoring its strong position in the gaming sector.
